So the flight over from Bergerac in France to stansted in England was the shortest flight I've ever been on. Only took an hour. The company I flew is the cheapest airline ever. Ryanair. Other than the seat you sit in Everything else you need to buy and they sell just about everything including scratchie cards in fact the only thing they don't sell is a photo of you on the plane with the hostesses. Every time they land on time they play a little trumpet call to say that they have and boast about being the airline with the most on time flights in Europe but it's a scam because they over estimate their flight times by a good 15 minutes.
Got picked up by Katy from the airport and I spotted her from a mile away, I couldn't have picked a more suitable or British car for Katy to be driving.
An old school bright red volkswagen beetle.
The drive home should've been easy but Katy has a way of making my first few hours in England exciting. She mentioned as we were leaving the airport that she was low on petrol but it should be enough to get home.
It wasn't.
Driving down the freeway and all of a sudden the car just dies. Luckily there was a off ramp right near us and managed to pull into it but didn't get any further. After a couple of calls to family and a quick map check to see where the nearest petrol station was there was a knock on my window and who should be standing there but a british police officer who just happened to be driving past. It was then I noticed what kind of car he was driving. A brand new 2012 BMW m-series. The rozzers know how to drive in style.
He gave Katy a lift to the petrol station to buy a jerry can and a bit of petrol. With MY money (Luckily I took a bit of sterling out at the airport) whilst I waited with the car. The officer waited whilst we filled the tank and tried to get it started to no avail. Tried a few more times and them finally ran the battery flat. So he gave us a jump.
The flight over and getting through customs was easier than the drive home.
Finally got there and there was a plate of chicken and rice waiting. Her family is really sweet and very hospitable.
There quite a spectacular view from my room for the nearby town reminded me of the look of the city lights from st Kilda beach at night. Then I wake up in the morning to find that it's all industrial. Katy's dad said they were told when they move in to pretend it's new York or Vegas. Not far of a stretch actually.
Just finishing booking a trip to Brighton for sunday to Monday, possibly Tuesday with Katy. Gonna be good fun.
But whilst the weather is good it's time for fish and chips for lunch and a couple of drinks. Then later tonight a BBQ and party.
A la prochaine
