So this is the 2nd time I've attempted to write this blog because it crashed just as I finished it and didn't save so yeah.
Ow my head!
Yesterday was something else and so much fun. Went for lunch with Katy down by the beach (bit different from australian beaches). The wind was something else but at least the sun was out, I think I brought the good French weather with me.
She took me to this beautiful little courtyard with a seafood shop and a pub so grabbed a pint and some local seafood with Mary and one of her friends, Jeanette.
Katy also suggested that I try the local "delicacy" jellied eels. And to be perfectly honest it wasn't that bad... For cat food. It was one of the foulest things I've ever eaten. I just scoffed it straight down and seriously I felt like I was gonna throw it straight back up again. The smell was so bad and the jelly just made the texture of it even worse. A man on the table opposite us had a big cup full of them, he dropped one on the ground and even his dog wouldn't eat it. But everything else was really fresh, the oysters tasted like they'd been plucked from the bosom of Neptune himself.
Then we went and met a few of her friends at the local pub for a few drinks. Managed to down 3-4 pints at £3 each. For those whose currency exchange is good that's about half-price compared to Melbourne.
After a while every started to get a bit hungry do we popped round the corner to perry's house (one of katy's friends) for a Barbie and more beers. The frat thought through my mind after walking outside and smelling the sizzling meat and everyone just talking trash was "I'm home" everyone was so friendly and hospitable towards the token Australian. Me being the first Aussie some ha ever met.
On a side note although the British won't admit it they say all the standard sayings that you would expect like "innit?" " d'you know wha' I mean?" etc etc.
The other thing they do without realising it is when thy ask how are you? They ask the same question twice "how you doin'? You alright?" always had a bit of a chuckle every time they did.
But then again Australians say everything as if it's a question?
On a 2nd side note I should mention perry's dogs. He has two GIANT long-haired German Shepards. Most gorgeous dogs I've ever seen but seriously wouldn't want to cross one in an alley at night.
Anyway I met perry's grandad as well, Gerry, who fought in the Korean war besides a bunch of Aussie troops and he was really excited to meet one again. The Aussies showed him some slim dusty whilst over there and he clearly fell in love with Aussie music because he picked up guitar after that. He even sings like slim dusty. He did ask what a juckbum was as well. I corrected him then told him that a jumbuck is a sheep and he got really confused as to why someone was putting one in their tucker bag.
Katy also got up and sang a duet with him which was very admirable on her part. Especially when it was something that started out as a joke and Gerry took it as being serious and I have to say without any musical knowledge Katy can hold a tune really well.
So after talking trash with everyone there and being rather intoxicated by this time it was worth going home ad getting a bit of sleep before driving to Brighton for the night.
On another side note perry's dad looked and sounded like brick top from snatch which was a bit intimidating to begin with especially with dogs the size of small horses. but he could not of been more unlike brick top personality wise.. He also said that I need to pop in for dinner before I head down to London an I feel I have to because other wise he might feed me to the pigs.
So at the moment I'm in the car with Katy heading down to the coast (just overtook a ferrari in a volkswagen beetle). to stay at a hostel for the night and just shoot the s***, wander the streets and find some cheap drinks. Might even brave the English sea if the weather stays the way it is.
So just letting you know if you hear from me in the next few days I'm not dead in a ditch, I haven't run off with the circus and I haven'r joined a cult. I just don't have a WiFi connection.
Although the cult thing does sound like a tempting idea...
A la prochaine
