So, Mendoza, wine country! We spent a couple of days there and really enjoyed it. Its a beautiful place and I squeezed quite a bit of action into my 2 days!
On our first full day there we went to Maipu, one of the areas just outside Mendoza city which is full of vineyards to do a wine tour and wine tasting. (Yes it is pronounced "my-poo"- so many jokes). We booked a tour where we got a lift over there, picked up our bikes and then cycled 12k to the end of the road, working our way back through as many of the vineyards as possible. We did one main wine tasting and a couple of smaller ones, and also fitted in an olive oil farm, delicatessen and chocolate store. It was really good fun but a lot of biking and I think we all felt a little sore at the end!
That evening, in a fit of spontenaity Steve and I booked ourselves a day´s ski trip for the following day. I had never set foot on a ski in my life but thought hey, the Andes are right there, I may as well give it a go! We got picked up at 7.20am and driven 2 hours to the ski resort where we got kitted up. I booked myself an hours lesson to start with and got taught the basics (37mins I lasted before I fell over!) then set out on my own... and promptly lost track of the number of times I ended up flat out in the snow! Going up in the chairlift was fun but coming down was another story (I think this may have been a little adventurous for my first time on the slope as every time I picked up speed I freaked out and fell over onto my bum for fear of shooting off the edge of the mountain). I stuck to the nursery slopes after that where I did a little better- by the end of the day I was at least falling over forwards instead of backwards, which I saw as an improvement!
It was a tiring day and my legs and feet were so sore at the end! On the journey back I tried to capture some of the scenery which was stunning, but it was not too easy out of the window of the minibus. Then it was straight onto an overnight bus to Buenos Aires - my last stop...
