From Puerto Iguacu we travelled south down to Posadas, a nice city where we had a much needed day to relax, browse some shops etc. We also got on a local bus and ´popped´ into Paraguay for an afternoon! We visited the ruins of a Jesuit estancia in Trinidad. It was a gorgeous day and a gorgeous place which we had pretty much to ourselves and we had fun getting creative with some photos on Jess´ camera (turns out its pretty hard to capture 4 people doing simultaneous handstands!)...
From Posadas we caught an overnight bus into Cordoba, arriving on Saturday morning. Here our luck ran out as unbeknownst to us it was a long holiday weekend in Argentina and it seems everyone and their uncle had flocked to Cordoba- every single hostel was full! Nightmare! We spent literally the whole afternoon trying to find somewhere, thankfully at about 6.30pm with a little help we managed to find a room in a reasonable hotel (seemingly the last one in the whole city) and so were saved from plan B (which involved a nightclub, our sleeping bags and some earplugs!). In a way it kind of worked out alright (we had hot showers and a tv- what luxury!) but note to travellers- check for bank holiday weekends and make sure you book ahead!
After all that, it turns out we didnt even like Cordoba very much! We did an open top bus tour which was a good way to see the city but although it does have some nice buildings, overall I found it a bit shabby and grimy really (sorry Cordobians). We went to a couple of art galleries and an art and crafts market which I enjoyed. We also spent an afternoon at Alta Garcia, a nearby town built around an old Jesuit estancia.
By far my favourite place in Cordoba was Las Tinajas- the country´s biggest all-you-can-eat restaurant. It costs $30 (about 5 GBP) for all the food you can eat and my god the amount of food they had on the buffet- you should have seen the four of us, wide eyed and mouths agape! Not only that but the food was delicious and really good quality. Anyone who knows us will know we were in absolute heaven, we eventually waddled out of there very happy little bunnies.
After Cordoba we headed to San Luis where yesterday we donned our hiking boots and set out to do some walking in the nearby national park, known for its unusual rock formations and canyons. We did some exploring ourselves but you cant go down into the canyons on your own so for this we did an 8k "guided" walk- I say "guided" because the guide didnt actually speak a word of English, so we didnt really learn much about the rocks but it was a nice walk anyway!
And so that brings us to today! We arrived in Mendoza this morning- wine country. We have booked to go on a wine tour tomorrow which I am very much looking forward to though slightly dubious about the concept of wine tasting and cycling!
