Kia Ora! From Windy Wellington.
I know I mentioned it before.....but I LOVE this place!
The last couple of weeks have been like far out bro! Since my last blog I have fallen over pretty much every day (I don’t know why) and have one hell of a sore arse! I have also been….. swimming off the Coromandel peninsula. Found out that New Zealand drivers are CRAP! Been lugging smelly Stinky Roturoa. Been in 2 buses that have broken down. Been the Chief for a day. Gone from 0-100 mph in 4 seconds. Spent an awesome 4 days catching fish and shooting possums over on the east coast of the north island. Played cards in a hot tub while watching the sun set. Seen a hell of a lot of glow worms in Waitomo. Watched an angora rabbit get sheared- bizarre! Got freezing cold while black water rafting in the caves. Hiked the Tonagerio Crossing. Watch rugby with some local Kiwi's in Taupo. Learnt to finish every sentence with ‘eh’. Soaked my bruised body 3 hot rivers and hijacked a fire engine in Wellington, a tracker in Rotorua and the Mc Donalds plane in Taupo……
The highlights defiantly have to be the days spent on the East Coast and the Tongaririo Crossing.
The 4 days spent on the east coast were all pretty chilled, we were on a much smaller bus which was driven by a lovely 70 something year old man Rex who would wake us all up in the morning with 'Boys and Girls, time to get up, who wants pancakes for breakfast?' He made us all hug and kiss a tree that has a very special place in the Maori world. Apparently hugging it and kissing it will bring you good luck....we did have gorgeous weather and survived the rock sliding but the bus still broke down! The rock sliding was awesome! But pretty scary, one of those things that could so easily go wrong! The following day we went to a Maori village where I was Chief! This involved a Hello and Thank you speech on behalf of the rest of the group and then singing! Pa-ha-ha-ha! Fortunately for the whole village and my fellow travelers, the singing part was not on my own! In the evening I went possum shooting! Which was brill, they did look very, very cute I must admit, but boy it was fun shooting them! The following day we went fishing for our dinner, which we ate while watching the sun go down in a hot tub.....Sweet as!!
The Tongariro Crossing was brill and felt good to get my heart beat up and not because i was jumping out, off, or over things or sliding/rolling down steep things on things that are not fit for purpose! The views really were beautiful. The following day we took a wander down to the hot springs, which runs into the river, to soak our aching limbs…..amazing huh, people have these on their door step. This really is a great country.
I am in Wellington for another couple of days and then off to the South Island.
Love ’n’ kisses
Ellen
