I've arrived in the adrenaline capital of New Zealand- Queenstown and today I did a 134 meter bungy jump! AWESOME! MENTAL! Out of this world! Truly terrifying but amazing all the same. The free fall lasts about 4 second before you start getting the slack of the bungy…..and what goes through your head in those 4 seconds is just CRAZY! I think your body doesn't quite believe what is going on. The adrenaline. The fear. The amazement….it is just crazy! One of the first things I said once I was back up was 'That what awesome, but I don't think I would ever do it again',2 minutes later of grinning from ear to ear I wanted to go again! AWESOME! After the jump we treated ourselves to a famous Fergburger (I had a Little Lamby)…..mmmm and a beer that has never tasted so good!
The last week and a half has been quite a quiet one on activities front as the weather has been pants…Rain, rain and more rain, which unfortunately meant we couldn't do some of the treks, including the Franz Josef Glacier L I did manage to spend a day walking and boating in the beautiful Able Tasman National Park….lots of lush green forest, beautiful blue sea and white sand.
From Abel Tasman we went to the famous Kiwi Poo Party…..fancy dress at a pub in the middle of nowhere, with an 80 year old host. The theme: Represent your country. I was an English tea party and spent the night drinking very low quality wine out of a tea pot and spent the following day regretting it….
From here we spent a very, very, very wet 2 days at Franz Josef twiddling our thumbs. I have never, ever seen so much rain in my life. And I am sure I have never felt quite so bored.
Moving on from Franz Josef we went to a lovely place called Wanaka. A place I would one day love to be able to call home. A little ski town set at the bottom of the beautiful snow capped mountains. There is a really chilled atmosphere and a hell of a lot of Scottish people. A friend from school put us in contact with a friend here, so we had a break from the hostels and very gratefully crashed at theirs. We went to a brilliant little cinema which has possible the world's most comfy sofas as seats and you can even watch your film from the comfort of an old yellow car. They have an interval, where you can either have a yummy freshly cooked dinner, a tasty homemade cookie, ice cream, or cake…..mmmm! Really cool little place.
And now I am in Queenstown and have spent the last day planning. We are off to watch a rugby match tomorrow. The Highlanders V's Reds in Invercargille, very much looking forward to that. We've hired a car to get back to Franz Josef to do the glacier hike, then back to Queenstownand then off to Milford Sounds, busy week or so ahead…..whoa! Feel tired already thinking about it.
in the last week or so the weather really has got cold and I've taken to wearing my thermals….sexy huh! Being in the middle of all these places that will in 2 months be busy ski resorts has really got me itching to get on my ski's, I feel like I am teasing myself being here.
Hope all is good back at home and you all have a lovely Easter.
