This morning we enjoyed the luxury of not having to set an alarm. In search of food we wandered down the street by baan tai beach, it was already 12pm so we decided to have brunch rather than breakfast and we also brought some snacks to last a few days while we bummed around on the beach. At about 5pm we decided to head into town and look for something to wear to the full moon party that night. So we flagged down a songtaew and wandered the streets of thongsala through markets and never ending isles of full moon merchandise. Full moon party this, full moon party that! Decided that this was highly unoriginal I opted to wear something that I already had. I then had the most amazing pineapple and lemon fruit shake, I think I could life off fruit shakes, they're so fruity and juicy! (No s*** hey!)
We had decided to have a nap before the full moon party and leave around 11 so we didn't miss out on the peak time (10-2) but also so we could have enough energy to last until morning, we wanted to watch the sunrise. However I ended up watching movies in bed until 10 then decide to get up and get ready. We finally arrived at our destination swarming with people. There were body paint stalls by the road and people were covered in neon patterns (or scribbles). We made our way to the beach which was rocking with dancing people and trance music. Sophie and I made a meeting point in case we got lost (which was to be expected with the amount of people there!) we brought a drink and wandered down the beach soaking up the vibe. Every 100 meters or so there was a different genre of music playing and it was insane. After a few hours of dancing I found some food and sat down. I began to see what was happening around me (although it was what I had expected) it was now about 3am and there were hundreds of couples sprawled across the beach, drunk people stumbling around crying for help because they had lost their phone/money/friends/dignity. It wasn't a pretty sight so I got up and began dancing again. By 4am things got a little creepy, many of the males were getting desperate, it seemed to me that a lot of them were only there for one reason. A conversation went a little like this.
Them: "Hey where are you from?"
Me: "Australia, you?"
Them: "*insert country*, where are you staying?"
Me: "On another beach on koh phangan."
Them: "You come and stay with me, Im staying nearby."
Me: "Yeah no thanks I have a boyfriend"
Them: "I have girlfriend too but she's back in *whatever country* so who cares!"
Me: *dumbfounded* -escapes-
So basically I spend a lot of the night in my little world dancing my heart out.
Around 5am Sophie and I were crashing and we couldn't handle the men anymore, it was getting really creepy and forceful so me being a determined young woman who won't be put into a situation she doesn't want to be in did a bit of tactical escaping an Sophie and I safely made it to a taxi and then back to our bungalow just as the sun was rising. We made it! We survived a full moon party! We celebrated this little victory before crawling into bed.
