Happy New Year to you!!!
Hope you all had a fun and happy Christmas and that this will be a great year! We went to a New Year's dance here~ the band was really good so we danced and danced and and even managed to stay until after midnight
As you can see in the photo, we have had some cold weather ~ this is a view from the park of new snow on the Catalina mountains! It even went below freezing for a couple of nights ~ in Arizona!!! We are in the high desert (Tucson is at 2400ft) but the locals are saying that this was the coldest December in 15 years ~ too bad we had to be here for it! We also had 2 days of heavy rain ~ huge puddles in the streets! Next day was back to sunshine though :)
The weather doesn't stop us though~ we have started golf lessons with a guy we play Pickleball with (he was a golf instructor at College level) - luckily he is a VERY patient and kind guy so, even after a couple of lessons, he is still willing to try with us
We had a fun evening at a neighbour's doing a tasting of Cabernet Sauvignons ~ no-one chose the most expensive as their favourite - no wine snobs us.
In a corner of the park there are community garden plots where people grow veggies and some flowers. Apparently someone forgot to close the gate and one night a family of Javelinas got in and had a feast! The maintenance guys were busy herding them out ~ they should have come and got Tess ! Not that she would have a clue, really.
One night a mobile star lab came and set up their telescopes ( the largest mobile telescopes in the world they said) and trained them on various stars and constellations for us. It was a cool night but the park set up propane firepits complete with hot chocolate and smores :) It was amazing to see some of the stuff ~especially the Andromeda constellation which is outside our Milky Way.
We are now playing on our 3 new Pickleball courts so way less waiting time (have only had one up until now). last week we ran a beginners clinic (I taught some warm-ups and stretches and then helped with lessons) . it was good but now we have more people wanting to play! We are just off to a party to celebrate the new courts ~ Malcolm was put in charge -he has arranged to have Chinese food brought in and has made up a quiz on 60s and 70s music.
A woman here has offered (free!) classes in how to read music, something we have both always wanted to be able to do so have been to one class so far -it was a bit esoteric but she promises it will make sense soon :)
I have been treating myself - went with friends to have a pedicure (a lovely hour of getting rid of all the nasty stuff and massaging. Then yesterday we went and had a long facial - ohhhh
Behind the park there is a path along a wash and most days we take Tess there for a walk. A few days ago there were 2 coyotes right on the path, not afraid at all of the people quite close by. We often hear them howling at night.
Otherwise, we are still doing our regular stuff (Elinor some hiking, line-dancing, glass fusion, Malcolm playing poker, going to a discussion group).
Next week we are putting on a slide show (we still call it that!) on our trip to Britain last summer ~ nowhere near organised so are a bit in panic mode at the moment
I am sending some photos so hope you get them OK.
Hope this finds you well and happy . Please send us your news :)
love and hugs,
Malcolm and Elinor
