I arrived at springbok disappointed, the town is beautiful, don't get me wrong. It's the fact that I had to experience it from a tow truck that spoiled it all. We arrived at the towing company's yard to change the towing vehicle from a flat bed truck, to a pickup, which was more suited for the long haul to Vredendal.
We loaded my car onto a double axle trailor, and set off. Relax Edwin, I told myself, things can't get any worse. Wrong again, the left rear tire on the trailor burst, so we took out the pickup's jack, only too find that there was no winding mechanism to lift the jack, ai jai jai. We weren't far from Garies, so we slowly descended ( into madness ) only kidding, we descended down the valley to the ( only ) filling station in Garies. But more of that later. I left from Springbok as the passenger with Oom Bertus, who's knowledge of the area was apparent from the get go, when he ontroduced himself, and added : Iek blei allie jarre al hie! He's a pleasant, down to earth kind of oomie.
