I decided to take a quick detour on my way back to Centurion. Taking the scenic route from the start seemed like a good idea.
Left the car at Kaapshehoop to take a walk among the beautiful rocks, scattered around the jaw dropping view from the fire lookout.
The man who lives here is Billy Mananda, a noble man who's fire scouting skills are without question. His photographing techniques need a bit more practice though. I'm no expert on the matter, but I will let you be the judge on that when I get the chance to post more pictures.
It took a while for my eyes to adjust to the view from up here, the horizon looks crystal clear, even though it's probably 40 to 50 km away.
As children, we used to go on a winter camp nearby, looking after horses and riding them everyday, only to finish the day with a big fire, relaxing at the boma and enjoying a hearty meal. One of the horses, named Medlah, I still think of fondly, he was a stubborn horse and we always ended up being paired together for the outrides, guess I was a stubborn child, so we were a good match. On one outride we rode through these very same rocks and as Medlah chose the most inappropriate time to start galloping, I pulled back sharply on the reigns, wich made him buck. His head hit my jaw and I chipped a tooth.
Aaahh, fond memories indeed!
