Our last in Krakow! We had a bit of sleep in which was great! We were picked up by our tour guide Anna at 10am.
The first place we headed to was the Schindlers list factory, part of it has now been turned into a museum with the original office still there. Our guide took us through the museum explaining as we went around about the war and the Jews. It was really informative, some parts were really sad. There was a part about a teacher who was not Jewish but was teaching Jewish childern. The childern were taken to the gas chamber, the teacher went with the childern into the gas chamber to look after them. He died with them when he didn't have to. Very sad.
The museum was really good and informative. At the end of the museum there was a wall of burnt books showing the blurred mind of people, it was very effective. We should do something about the crime and not stand back and watch.
Ater the museum we went to the Jewish Ghetto, our guide showed us where it is walled off. It was a very small area for the amount of people that had to live there. Today there is a memorial which has a number of chairs throughout the courtyard and a bus station that still stands, it is very effective. We saw where a lot of men, women and childern were executed. Very sad.
The next stop was the Plaszow Camp loacted in Krakow, this was a working camp where schindler got his workers from. He saved 1,100 people. This camp was for working, it wasn't a death camp. But excuetions did happen here.
After this we went to the Jewish township, this was also a very small area. We went into a prayer house but is now no longer a working prayer house as now there are not a lot of practising Jews anymore.
We went to the area that was filmed in Schindlers List, the Ghetto in the movie.
We then walked through the town, it has a lot of bars and restaurants. A good place to hang out at night. We looked at a couple of Synagogne, these are the Jewish prayer houses. We then went into one that has been turned into a museum.
After this our guide took us back to our hotel. I have noticed with the Polish people that they are glad of your attention when they are telling you about what happened. I think it is important that they keep telling what happened so we can stop it from happening again, so much sadness.
The weather took a turn for the worst today, raining and cold. So we had to get changed and caught a taxi to the Market Sqaure which is the main square in Krakow. We went to lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe. The meals were huge. After lunch we had a look around the markets, they kind of had the same things in all of the markets so we didn't actually buy anything which is not like Eddie and Melissa.
The rain started to ease off so we headed off to a big mall, it had over 260 shops. It was huge and very busy so we had a look around. I brought a really cool amber bracklet, actually Eddie has to talk me into buying it. LOL But i'm glad I did.
We then walked back to the hotel as we needed to get ready for our journey to Scotland tomorrow. We are about to go and have tea at the hotel restaurant, the food is just so good that we have eaten here every night.
We travel to Scotland tomorrow on the plane.
