So we made it into Krakow at 7am Thursday. We walked to the Hotel from the train station. We couldn't check in as it was too early so we dropped off our bags and headed off exploring Krakow.
We walked to the river Vistula and found the statue of a Dragon that Eddie wanted to see. There is a story that the Dragon lived under the Castle, the Statue was right by the castle. The Dragon breathed fire. It was quite cool.
We then walked up the castle, the grounds where stunning. It helped that it was a beautiful day, about 28 degrees at 9am. We walked around the castle grounds and had a look at the Cathedral.
We then went to a restaurant which was in the Castle grounds. Eddie had a beer and something to eat, I just had a drink as it was 10am.
We had another look around the castle, then went into the cave that they say the Dragon lived in. It was kind of cool actually and rather large.
When we exited the cave, we were talked into taking a boat cruise along the river for half an hour. It was good to go for the boat cruise but we were promised an English speaking tour. We didn't get this so we didn't learn alot about the river and what was around it.
After the boat cruise we headed into the town centre, at first we got a bit lost but Eddie got us back on track with his map.
We got into the main square around lunch time, it is huge. I couldn't believe how big it was with the churches around it. We found somewhere to eat. Just by where we were eating was a huge queue of horses and carraiges, it was amazing.
After our lunch we headed back to the hotel to have a rest before our tour to the Salt Mines.
We were picked up in a white van by a friendly Polish guy, reminded me of Prague and the tour that Eddie had booked. It took about half an hour to get to the Salt mine. The tour was for about two hours, we went down 130 metres. It was quite amazing as the caverns were carved by hand, they where huge. There was what I would call an underground ball room with its salt chanderlers, it was beautiful. They also had a restaurant. When we were finished the tour we had to catch a lift back up, it was a bit of a scary lift and really didn't feel safe, even the guide closed her eyes.
After the tour we were dropped back off at the hotel. We had a meal at the hotel restaurant which was really nice, very impressed.
We had a really lovely day, the weather was AWESOME!
