Eaton Family's Aussie Adventure
Litchfield NP is pretty close to Darwin and is a favoured spot for day trips for locals and why wouldn't you, with lovely safe swimming in rockholes with lovely cool fresh water, compared with Darwin beaches, where they take 150 saltwater crocodiles out of Darwin Harbour each year!! This photo shows Buley Rockhole which is a series of cascading waterfalls between lovely little swimming holes that run down a hill - about 100 metres or so. We of course tried all of them and there is a photo of Stephen sliding on his tummy between the rockholes. We did a walk between here and Florence Falls and then on to our campsite and had a swim at all the places. It really is a thoroughly lovely spot to be. I can see why many people much prefer it to Kakadu - it is smaller, more manageable and cooler with lots of safe options for swimming. Kakadu is simply huge and there is a risk in swimming just about anywhere (not one we were prepared to take, though we saw plenty of people doing so despite the warning signs). The only bad point about Litchfield is that away from the water, by our camp, and on all the walks the bitey march flies were dreadful.
