Arriving in Budapest was exciting, warmer than Edinburgh and quite foreign! The hostel was in suburbia, and the train into the town was a harry-potter-styley made-in-Poland big steel carriaged train.
The hostel was essentially a flat, which was great coz I immediately got chatting away. Then yesterday I set out for an adventure with a fellow hostel buddy. (He seemed quite taken aback when someone tried to sell him an iphone/ pair of socks!)
Unfortunately museums are closed on a Monday, but we walked all through Budapest, through the park, past the cathedral, parliament house, across the river Danube and up to the castle up at Buda.
As we sweated our way up the hill we emerged just as the changing of the guards was taking place at the palace= nae bad! We then snuck (accidentally!) through the caves through the hill! We climbed yet another hill to reach Liberty Statue, not the statue of Liberty! The weather was pretty miserable, so we walked back up to the hostel late afternoon after spotting much of what Budapest has to offer.
That night we ate out, and had another crazy hostel night in involving card tricks and explaning Scotland to Americans. All good.

Louise You probably don't remember, but you did visit the castle at Buda once before, when you were 13 months old :0)
