Leaving LA. The Hire Car. Orange County. The American Dream.
With L.A. done the time had come to move on. Our transport of choice for the LA-San Diego leg was by car however trying to hire a car on a dodgy Internet connection in an L.A. Hostel wasn't proving fruitful. I was going to have to do this the old fashioned way. I was actually going to have to order something by talking to a person. Having visited a couple of rental companies, haggled a bit (chose the company whose car had a sat nav over the other who offered printed maps) I secured us a car. We had a 1.4 Automatic Chevy Cobalt aka the Gutless Wonder. Off we went. L.A. Over.
A couple of wrong turns later (remember it had sat nav) we were on the Pacific Freeway bound for Orange County.
We drove through Newport County but never saw Jim Robinson. We carried on until Lagune Beach where we stopped for lunch. This part of the world is truly stunning, genuinely.
From there we drove south until we hit San Diego just in time for sun down at the aptly named Sunset Cliffs. Only problem was a little bit of fog meant we couldn't actually see the sunset although I'm told its breathtaking!
With the Chevy parked up for the night we went to the drug store, the liquor store and the pizzeria. We got a 12 pack of bud, a big bag of crisps and a cheese pizza, went back to the motel and watched a film on Amercian TV. At this point I realised I was experiencing the American Dream and boy was it fun y'all.
By next morning the fog was still around so we took the hire car across town to its final destination, found our next hotel, checked in and got set for New Years Eve in San Diego!
