Bye, Bye Miss American Pie
Kia Ora from New Zealand.
Before I start can I just say please make sure that you have read Scotty's first post before I eclipse him with mine.
San Diego was fab. As Scotty said the drive down was amazing (a big well done to Scott for driving) and lunch at Laguna was fab. if I was to live in America that is where I would stay.
After the Sunset Cliffs we moved into San Diego city and stayed at Hotel Solamar for New Year. The hotel reminded me alot of the Malmaison. What we have found on this trip is the more expensive the hotel the more all the extras cost. Example budget hotel in LA we had towels, free internet room service etc. Hotel Solamar (very expensive) it costs for everything including $3 for a snickers bar.
For new year we went out for a mexican and spent the night in an american bar where we be-friended a couple of american guys. We did shots into the small hours and I danced with an old mexican man. All in all we had a great new year. I brought the start of the new year in the only way I know how. Hungover and in my bed all day being sick. I actually think it was jet lag :)
For those of you who I had expressed my fear of backpacking to I feel I should give you an update on how its going. I manage to pack all my worldly goods into my backpack which weighted 13kg. I can carry it by myself for approx 20-30mins.
So far all outfits have been good and I am glad I packed some extra jeans and jumpers as the nights have been cool. However if you are faint hearted turn away now as the next part is not for the fashion concious. I have everynight worn my white trainers with my jeans (even to the cinema). One guy even told me I looked American (no offense Hope). But worse than this for new year I had packed a lovely black dress and my black wedge sandles (which can also be worn casually as my wordrobe is capsule). However new year was cold so I had to wear tights. Yes ladies I worn tights with open toe sandles!!!!! I still can't believe it myself. There is no photographic evidence of this.
However to wrap it up San Diego was fab we went sight seeing and to the cinema to see Brads new flick Ben Button. I would recommed San Diego to anyone as it is so clean and friendly.
We had a mammouth flight to New Zealand but we are here and it is beautiful. It looks like a mix between Loch Lommond (with sun) and Les Gets. we shall keep you updated as we are still planning our activities here. Hope you are all well and all the best for 2009.
Weather: Nice and warm (17 degrees)
Films watched: The Deal, The House Bunny, Ben Button.
Famous People: still zero.
