Hello chaps and chapesses,
Well after the exciting expedition to the capital, we've spent a few days in Chicago, and its been raining. A lot. Which makes a nice change I suppose...
Anyway, things achieved in town include eating cheeseburger fries (cheecy chips with added beef) and finally sampling twinkies! John and I also popped up to the top of the Hancock Tower, which gave rather impressive views of the lake Michigan (I think) and the annual airshow which just happened to be on that day at the beach.
We also spent an evening in the Exacalibur nightclub which will stay in my memory as one of the weirdest Ive ever been to...
And after visiting the Shedd aquarium and Lincoln Park Zoo (which by the way is free so worth a visit), I decided I should write down any stupidities I hear from Johnny foreigner... In these cases they were all American (not a suprise really)... In the zoo, after looking in an enclosure marked Tamarins a mother declared to her son "Look, more meercats". Also at the zoo an American / Chinese girl saw a pink toed tarantula, and actually cried "holy camole". I was just waiting for the "batman" to follow but it never did. Finally at the aquarium, and this is my favourite so far, a red neck couple were checking out a tank, when the chap turned to his wife and said "Sea Turtles. They're good eating!" Brilliant.
To finish our stay in town John and I took part in the classic american sport of ten pin bowling where I scored a most respectful 177 and 151, beating all the yanks around us and walking away with a happy swagger. Cheers John, get some practice while I'm away eh?!
Next stop Toronto.
