Hello all. Well we have really enjoyed Broome but after 5 really great days it was time for new territory. The new houses being built there are a bit different as they are all made of corrugated iron because bricks are too expensive to transport up here and they retain to much heat. The other two things that stood out to me were no spoutings or letterboxs, they use P.O.Boxes due to the high rain fall in the wet season. Our visit was timed perfect as the months of June, July and August usually have perfect weather and weeks either side of that apart from the wet season can be very hot or humid or both.
The next stop one and a half hours further south is Barn Hill 9 km along a straight red sandy road with lots of corrigations and three gates for my navigator to open and shut. It's the first time the van has left the asphalt for any length of time and Stephanie had another minor meltdown as the van slid about with me trying to avoid the worst ruts. The motor camp is very different, basic and remote but has lovely views of the sea from your camp spot overlooking the sea from the cliffs. You pay your fee and are told to find your own site while driving along a sandy winding road amongst bush and trees. Well after we settled in and relaxed in the last spot left back from the cliffs we took a wander around this very popular camp enjoying the spectacular beach views and checking things out.The toilets and shower block is some thing that we have never quite seen before, made out of corrugated iron with no roof at all and the walls stop 30cm from the ground so you can see people's feet if they are showering or in the loo from a distance away saving you knocking on the doors. It's actually quite nice sitting on the loo looking up at the sunny blue sky in a very well ventilated loo. The showers, (we use our van shower) are cold water which heats up by 2 pm as the water runs through 100m of coiled 75mm polythene pipe lying on the ground supplying hot water for anyone who likes a hot shower. Actually the cold water is not all that cold but it is has to be seen to be believed ! The beach is amazing with white sand leading up to very red cliffs and lots of interesting rock formations. Next morning a cliff top camp site became vacant so we quickly parked our van there and now have a awesome sea view to watch those big red sunsets. Later in the day after a nice beach walk when the temp just became too much and the sea was just too tempting to resist we both went in for a swim in that clear green Indian Ocean. It was neither hot or cold and we did not want to get out its so nice so it's a must do every day.
Our latest purchase was a wok so with lot of vegetables, noodles, garlic, ginger and sauté sauce a meal was created after the usual happy hour and wow! that wok is going to get a lot of use. We still never get bored with star gazing up at that amazing starry sky and we like to see who can see the most satellites. So far the winner is the person with the most testosterone and red wine in him!!!! Well it's nearly time for me to set up that kingside bed in the back of the van again that gives us such a roomy and comfortable sleep.
Ni night for now.
