Hi again after being away from reception for four days.
After leaving Barradale the nice freedom camp, we travelled through wide open scrubby plains that seemed to go on forever that slowly changed to more greener grassy country but as always brought back to us the huge size of this country. Next camp was at Bullara Station, a working cattle station where you are in the middle of the day to day operations of this large station. The camp area is very basic with interesting home made open air shower facilities beside a wood fired hot water cylinder. Every night there is happy hour around a fire with Damper bread or a spit roast and nearly everyone joins in and with the friendly staff it makes for a great night. This place has a highly recommended listing on Wiki Camps and is a awesome place to experience. Saturday lunchtime saw us arrive in Exmouth which surprised us as it's a very modern town with a huge amount of new house building around the water front on man made canals similar to Surfers Paradise. Its like they are rebuilding the whole town very nice! The town is prone to cyclones because of where it is situated. After restocking the van we cruised around the north west cape of Australia which is the Cape Range National Park and down 80km to Osprey camp which is by the beach overlooking the Ningaloo Reef that is in a world heritage park. Wow ten metres off the beach and you are snorkelling over coral reef that is alive with fish of every description and colour and that is why you have to book in advance to get a camp site anywhere in this remote area.
After buying snorkelling gear for both of us yes even Steph had a go and loved it (she hasn't done it for about 15 years) we had some fantastic swims viewing those friendly fish in the torquiose waters of the Indian Ocean. The days were sunny and warm but the breeze that popped up was very windy some nights and really rocked our van. It showed no sign of disappearing so it was time to move on after 3 great days even though we had booked for 4. Every night we joined a few others by the sea for happy hour and a good chat where you could also watch huge migrating whales jump up and splash just outside the reef while the sun disappeared into the sea. On our last night there we drove out along the road just on dark and in half an hour saw about 20 kangaroos and a similar amount of rabbits jumping this way then the other on the road in front of us. I never travelled more than 30 km/hour or you could easly hit one like a lot of other traffic does judging by the amount of dead animals beside the road. A visit to the information centre reunited us with a couple that we have camped with and meet up with several times before once again it's a small world! Today luck was with as again we were able to get the last campsite available back in Exmouth at midday so after a eye opening drive around this nice town it was time to do a big load of washing (I'm running out the correct date undies). After a re stock of food for tomorrow's trip south we have another stop over at Bullara Station planned before heading down to Coral Bay and hopefully more snorkelling. See ya then
