Well where to begin.. I know we haven't updated the blog in a while however I do have a little excuse as I kind of broke my iphone and it took a while to get it fixed! We arrived in rainforest central cairns on the 4th may and decided to stay in gilligans for our first night as it had been recommended, however when we got into the room it smelt all damp and felt all sticky (even through the crappy air con was on). We can't complain that much as its a party hostel so everyone is there to have a good time ( or just get drunk and Mong out (; ) and before I forget we even got told the funny 'woke up to a condom on the floor next to me' story. Hilarious and pretty yuck to say the least. In the end we walked down the road to a hostel called northern greenhouse and stayed there for the rest of our trip.. It was lovely there and felt like home. The people were met were amazing! Joe and Jordan.. Literally love these boys.. Definitely made the holiday memorable! We organised a trip to the Great Barrier Reef, where we could either dive or snorkel.. As I couldn't dive, Jess did an intro version and I just snorkelled! The views were spectacular! So many multicoloured, luminescent fish swimming about on the tropical waters! (Saw Nemo and Dory). The sea was warmer than the outside temperature and even when it started to rain you couldn't tell under the water :). The boat was really rocky as the sea wasn't the calmest and I got horrendously sea sick.. Was told to take these ginger tablets ( have to say they made me feel worse!) but there were other people who were actually throwing up during our lunch ( I wasn't that unclassy ha). Oh yeah they cooked us a yummy BBQ meal of pasta salad, steak, sausages and a huge fruit platter ( Jess loved it but I could only manage a lolly pop.. Food wouldn't have been the best of ideas.. Overall we had an amazing trip and saw the colourful marine wildlife of the Great Barrier Reef!
The day after we booked a trip with the boys also to Atherton Tablelands (would highly recommend the barefoot tours.. Especially with our tour guide Emma! Too funny) to see all the incredible lakes and waterfalls. It was another early start (and who said travellers were lazy!) We stopped at the first lake which had a nipple rating of about 9 so it was pretty warm where we all jumped in and swam with the turtles whilst Emma was getting our morning tea of fruit and Tim tams ready! (Addicted to them now) Timtam slam anyone? ;). We also visited Millaa Millaa falls where Peter Andre's one hit wonder 'Mysterious Girl' was filmed.. And created a remake of the famous hair flick.. Photos to follow! ( have to say I enjoyed my 'stars in there eyes' moment ;). This trip was wet, muddy ( the idea of making a mudslide was very tempting!) warm, amazing.. Too many words could describe it! Lots of Timtams, cookies, hot chocolate, cups of tea and good company all make this trip worthwhile.. Plus sliding down the last waterfall - slipping down whilst climbing up! ( the little mishap of Jordan slicing his foot/toe open.. We sorted him all out when we got home!). The nights out were also really good.. Having a laugh with friends and meeting people you'd seen along your travels beforehand! (Seeing faces from home too.. Scary!) also to add in on the last night I made paella for me, Jess and the two boys.. Just a little family meal :). Our trip to cairns was amazing and I know I've only mentioned hints of what we got up to but ill let the story telling commence when we get home!
Hope you guys back home are all dandy :)
Lots of love
