Ferres Greece to Istanbul
And another 400 miler! They're getting a bit easier now, straight down the motorway to Turkey where we did the first real border; V5s, Green Cards, stamped here, signed there etc. It was pretty efficient though so we were through quickly and the heat's arrived so I finally get to turn the heated grips off.
We entered Istanbul in one big group, led by Kevin, which I thought would be a complete disaster given the last time we arrived in this town we were split into singles within minutes of arriving and I then spent hours looking for the hotel. Turned out Kevin knows a back route in down the coast road so we all arrived without pain; easy-peasy. Given Mike and Colin have never ridden in heavy traffic before I thought they did really well.
The average Istanbul driver is forceful but as long as you're forceful back you can reach a compromise. The little yellow taxis however are dangerous and will leap into any gap they can see; still they're all at least awake, which is more than you can say about the average Brit driver. The hotel is about 200 yards away from the one we used on the RTW so the three of us wandered around to a couple of the local bars that we used the last time.

Clive RTW 2009 A Team Dear Count A pity you didnt get to visit your ancestral resting palce on this trip! Good to see you off from the Ace. We are all insanely jealous - even more so that you had an "easy" ride into Istanbul. Watch out for the buses on the way out! Regards The GHOB PS make sure Doug keeps the Mars bars and cigar pannier topped up!
