Day 38
Today we went on the DMZ (Demilitarized zone) tour which was an early start up at 6am to have breakfast at 6.30am oh we do love the breakfast here :)
In the morning was a long journey to Dong Ha Town to pick up the tour guide then we visited Rock Pike, the mountain which the US Army used to try and cut supply routes through south to north Vietnam, then we went onto Dakrong Bridge & the Ho Chi Minh trails which was one of the supply routes.
After this we went to the Minority village to see the rice paddy fields and the huts that the locals live in. Then the last stop before lunch was the Khe Sahn Combat base which was fantastic there were old bombs there and some planes which Luke loved and some huge tanks. We had the chance to explore the bomb shelters which looked like a little village with high trenches leading to each shelter, it was like a maze :)
Then we had lunch and headed on the afternoon part of the tour, then we went to the coastline and went along Cua Tung Beach leading us to the Vinh Moc Tunnels which were similar to the Cu Chi Tunnels in Ho CHi MInh City, however we had the opportunity to explore more of the tunnels undergroud, practically all the residential area, we saw the bathroom, toilet, bedrooms, weapon storage, meeting room, maternity room, and bomb shelter which was fantastic, I could stand up in most of it, but Luke was huddled over.
On our way back we went over the Hien Luong Bridge which is over the Ben Hai River which is the point where north and south of Vietnam were divided, and is the final point that the US Army got to before they were forced back south.
We met some people from Australia and US which was great seeing asthough we have yet to go there, so we asked lots of questions and the Australians reassured me that it will be warm when we go phew.
Speak soon x
