Day 43
Today we headed to Ha Long Bay at 8.30am first was a bus journery for 4 hours to Ha Long then we boarded the boat at about midday and were allocated our cabins, they were lovely little cabins, we even got a double bed and a single bed, and we had a view from our window out to the sea, and it had an ensuite bathroom.
After this we went on deck for some lunch which consisted of seafood, seafood and more seafood, oh and some rice and onion rings :) as we ate the boat travelled through the bay and were surrounded by lots of giant rocks, some of which were named according to what they looked like for instance we saw the fighting c*** (as in chickens) and the floating village, it is crazy to think people actually live on the rafts on the sea.
Then we made our way to one of the caves in one of the rocks and had the chance to get off the boat and take a look inside, it was magnificent, it was called the amazing cave, because the more and more they explored the cave the more they were amazed at what they uncovered. We dropped my camera here and were nearly falling over backwards to catch it so it didn't fall down a hole, but it recovered with only minor injuries :)
After this we were taken to do some kayaking on the sea, this was so much fun, however it did take some time for us to get the co-ordination right ha :) We did get soaked too as there was water inside the kayaks, we explored some caves and were able to kayak around the rocks ourselves for an hour which was great, we want to do it again NOW!
Then we boarded the boat again and were offered some fruit and wine to put us on until tea, then we had the chance to shower before tea was served, which was more seafood, squid eurgh, and rice and pork steaks and chips. After tea was karaoke and squid fishing, we opted for the squid fishing and you get a long rod made from bamboo with some line on the end and a green glowing fish with some hooks, no actual bate..... Then we were taught by the tour guides how to squid fish which is to drop your rod in and out of the water, after a while we had seen a few squid but hadn't managed to catch anything, then the tour guide came and gave us another lesson after seeing the squid and I caught one with a little help from him, but I told him to put it back into the water because I did not want it to die, oh and it sprayed ink supposively.
After this we had a few cocktails and beers with some of the people we had met on the boat, the alcohol must be extremely strong as it only took 4 cocktails and I was gone.... We were told at midnight being the only 4 tourists awake that we had to go to bed so that the crew could sleep, but we decided to go on top deck and continue for another hour or so then we headed for bed.
Day 44
Ouch!!!!! I woke up with a MAJOR hangover, and Luke had one too just not as bad. The boat didn't help mind you. Then we had breakfast which consisted of no seafood but toast, egg and sausage.
After this we went to the Pearl Farm, and were shown how they manufacture pearls, they open a clam and take out the muscle/pulp and cut this into small strips then make some balls out of the inside of the shell and wrap a strip around the ball, then they insert this into another clam with the muscle still inside into the ovary hoping that it will cultivate it into a pearl. Then they put them back into the sea in boxes for 18mths to 2 years and then 30% of the ones they have made should produce pearls. We also saw the fish farm which had a shark in it :o
Then we went back onto the boat and we retired on top deck in the sun chilling seeing asthough I was still hanging then we headed back to shore and on our way had lunch.
When we got back to the hotel in the evening we had tea and slept as we were shattered.
