Hi all
We are having a great time in South Africa. The weather has been very hot, mostly early 30s - even the locals are saying that it's hot, not at all like the weather you are having at home!
We've just arrived in Stellenbosch, having spent the last two weeks in Cape Town. We started off staying in a guest house in the suburb of Newlands, a few minutes walk from the cricket ground. The guest house, The Royal Love Nest Guest House, was the former home of Chelsea Davey, Prince Harry's girlfriend and he apparently stayed there on several occasions! We may even have sat on the same throne as Prince Harry!
The cricket was brilliant, even though England didn't win it was really exciting, especially the last day. There was a full crowd every day and the atmosphere was really good with a fairly even split of England and South African supporters mixed in together.
After the cricket we stayed near the waterfront in Cape Town which is a really nice area and we could see Table Mountain and the new World Cup football stadium from where we were staying. We managed to get up Table Mountain on a clear day as it is often covered in a table cloth of cloud. We went up in a revolving cable car and were able to get some spectacular views down into the bay. We also went on a trip over to Robben Island and had a very good tour around finding out about its past as a leper colony and prison island. We then had a guided tour around the prison itself by a former political prisoner who explained what life was like for people such as Nelson Mandela as well as telling us about his own experiences.
We are now staying on a beautiful winery just outside Stellenbosch before we begin a drive down the Garden Route. We are then looking forward to going on safari in Kruger National Park and onto Tanzania to stay with family, and then back home for the middle of February.
Thanks for the messages from school and I am sure to see you when I am back.
Bye for now
K & D X
