Hi everyone.
We have just finished our safari in Kruger National Park which was AMAZING! We were lucky enough to see the 'big five': lion - a large male close up but not doing much; buffalo - a large herd and a few males close up by a river; rhino - in the far distance; elephants - lots and lots and lots including a very large bull a few feet in front of us (quite scary but very exciting!); leopard - walking down the road and then right on past our vehicle, WOW! We also saw the 'ugly five' - warthog, wildebeast, hyena, vulture and maribou stork all fully deserving of the title 'ugly'! We also saw many other beautiful animals such as giraffe, various type of antelope, zebra, hippos (which we could see by the river next to our lodge), monkeys and baboons, eagles and various other beasties.
The journey down the Garden Route was relaxed and enjoyable but we did have to avoid the baboons and the tortoises on the road. We started off in Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of South Africa, which was very hot and arid being further in land near the mountains (it got up to 40C a few of the days!) We decided to view the ostriches from the road rather than visit a farm but we did discover that they are very healthy and tasty to eat! We did visit a wildlife ranch and the extremely spectacular Cango Cave which had fantastic large canverns and formations. Along the way we also spent some time in George, Storms River and Port Elizabeth. We went on some lovely walks along the beach and in the forest and on a suspension footbridge over the picturesque Storms River Mouth.
We are about to begin the last leg of this trip and are on our way to Moshi, Tanzania, at the foot of Kilimanjaro.
We'll be back soon! K & D X
