Well another update to our adventure, we arrived in Williamsburg, VA on Tuesday, May 7. After a days rest after our long trip from the NC border (about 130 miles) we went to Jamestowne which as you know is the first landing spot for the first settlers from England in 1607. Our stay in Fayetteville is over, can't say that we are sorry to leave there. We stayed at an Army Recreation RV Park just outside of Ft Bragg. The park was on top of a hill close to Smith Lake, there were some really nice facilities at the lake (rec center, picnic area with a beach, docks and several water ski jumps) but it was all fenced off and you could not get near the lake. We noticed the sign for Crooked River State Park 4 miles so we thought that we should check it out while we are still here in King's Bay. When i saw the name of the park, I expected a small windinig river, but actually it was huge and winded through the salt marshes. Started out the day with a hearty breakfest at one of Jill's favorite places, Craker Barrel. Watching Jill eat grits is one of the great pleasures of my life? After breakfest we proceed on to the pier at St. Marys for the ferry ride to Cumberland Island which is about 45 minutes around the marshes or about 10 minutes as the crow flies. We spent the day in Savannah with my best friend Cindy from 7th & 8th grade. I have not seen her since 1970 when my family moved from Phenix City, Al to St. Pete. Cindy's husband Glen drove us around the city and we walked through an old cemetery and many of the squares downtown including the square where the famous bench scene from the movie "Forest Gump" was filmed.
