Ok, so this week I taught every morning. 6 o clock starts but usually finished by midday so not too bad. I am getting to know the children a bit better now, which is good. They are all pretty much troublemakers and have no respect for authority. But becuase of this, I find myself laughing ALOT in lessons. The other teacher is laughing also, so its not too bad. I see them copy eachothers work, cheat during tests and use mobile phones etc in lesson. Its hard to get mad because it wasn´t long ago when I was learning another language and did not care for it at all. I teach the same 4 classes each week, and am definately enjoying it.
I am now addicted to two different foods here on the islands. Avocado's and Guava. The Avocado´s are really creamy and so good with salted crisps. Guava is a very odd fruit, you twist the large pod open and eat the material/bedding covering the big seeds inside. Its delicious!
Midweek I had an excursion with some germans and an equadorian friend to the highlands...such a change in environment from the port. A 30min drive and suddenly its like a jungle. We saw two craters which were formed from collapsed lava tunnels. We then travelled through some actual lava tunnels and headed to see giant land tortoise in their natural environment.
Thursday I went back to the bay where I first saw sharks...so I could swim with them. I had decided I wanted to go to San Cristobal island and do some snorkelling, but the places you snorkel there are renowned for the variety of sharks....so I thought I should try and swim with these smaller ones first, to give me a bit of confidence. I could not find them as the tide was low, so no luck there.
I also ventured out in the evenings a few times during the week, mondays were good for finding other tourists as they all arrived to go on cruises the next day. Plus after going to the highlands we decided to go out and try a new bar. I danced with some canadians and chatted to a spanish wedding party.
Friday came and after school I packed and headed to the dock, as I was going to San Cristobal Island for the weekend. The boat ride there was out of this world, 2 hours of fun! The water was very rough and the boat was so fast. Wave after wave left the boat in the air for a second and then come crashing back down to the surface. It was like a river rapids ride at an amusement park...only far more intense and lasting alot longer. I got a few bruises on my legs due to a few bigger waves.
What topped it off was watching a large chinese gentleman sitting on the outside of the boat, trying to listen to his mp3 payer. Occasionally a few splashes hit him and he got pretty unconfortable but couldnt move as it was too rocky to stand up. Then a huge reserve of water which had accumulated on top of the boat came down on him. And more and more continued to do so throughout the journey. Very funny to watch. How unfortunate!
