DITCH-ISM´S.
Well I had a variety of unlucky incidents within the space of 24 hours this week, and so it got me reflecting on that unlimited supply of clumsiness and misfortune I seem to possess. So heres a few snippetts of me just being me:
After my first day of being a teacher I arrived home, only to remember that I left my bag (with alot of important stuff in) back at the school. Rushed back and it was still there.
In an attempt to learn some spanish, so I could explain how much I liked the food I was being given...I confused ´Mucho Gusto´(Nice to meet you) with ´Me Gusta´(I like). So, for the first few days, the homestay-lady thought I was mental...introducing myself to my plate of food each meal. e.g. ´Nice to meet you fish´
My first day trip and I totally forgot about suncream, it was often cloudy and I hadnt needed it yet...so when the day was up and the boat was taking us back I was very very red. I felt so embarressed (although no one could tell!)
I also taught the kids in one classroom to do the ´V´sign with their fingers, accidentally. Long story. Now they wont stop.
In my most recent weekend trip I was in a Discotech dancing with this spanish female doctor. I went to the toilet and stood on a large piece of glass, my instant (drunken) reaction was to knock it off my shoe with my hand....biiig mistake, hand was cut and there was lots of blood. My dancing partner had to escort me to an american mates hostel to perform some glass removal and disinfecting. Its getting better now.
The morning after, I woke up 10 mintues before our ferry was leaving to get back home. So I rushed around to pack and left my only towel on the balcony. Whoops.
Which brings me to the 24 hour spat. I had just been to the bank and cashed some bankers cheques. Then bumped into a friend and went to happy hour. 2 caprihanas later I needed to pay my bill, trying to get to my small change I unloaded the $180 wad of cash on the table and ended up forgetting it. Luckily I had made friends with a Hawaiian estate agent and an American Gentleman, who spotted it and alerted my friend who was still around. She gave it back to me later that day! Then later that night I dropped my keys outside my house, the next morning I realised a key had fallen off and was no where to be found.
During that night myself and 4 others decided we wanted an adventure the next day, and a waitress told us she would take us kayaking around the island and to a place called ´shark alley´to snorkel. Well it was such a long journey and the water was pretty rough. We got to a small beach for a rest and only me and one other wanted to carry on to shark alley. So we went. I forgot my snorkel, and we were not heading back so we decided to take it in turns with 1 pair. We found some rocks in the middle of the sea to jump out onto, but as we tried we capsised and the only pair of snorkels fell to the ocean floor. We beckoned a passing snorkeler, who dove and got them for us. Then a huuuge wave came over me as I held both the rocks and the kayak. The wave took my camera from my pocket and it was swept to the seabed. My friend then used the snorkel we had to locate it and somehow it actually still worked. Both unlucky and lucky I guess.
Not to mention the amount of trips, falls and head bangs I have experienced over here. Plus my inability to learn peoples names has gotten me into plenty of awkward situations.
