Before I left galapagos I wanted a chill out night, so I put the 3 women from my house through a horror film i bought from a local pirate DVD place. Watching the different cultures react was great. The English girl looked away when she knew what was coming, the German girl hated it but just watched and kept quiet. The Australian would try and talk to the characters, ask questions constantly and jump/scream loudly. Watching her was waaay more entertaining than the movie.
I arrived in Quito on Monday and had a day to kill before jungle fever hit me. I got to this posh Hotel (I stupidly agreed to pay for through an English agent) at 2.30pm, and although it was mega nice...I was bored. So I wondered round town, fully alert as I'm aware there is sooo much crime in this place. Found a nice park and some markets. Soon after, my instinctual internal compass directed me to their bar district, I ended up playing pool with a Canadian bar owner till 7.30pm. Sinking some balls and some pints!
I then appreciated my posh hotel facilities and took a bath! Then went to eat, fully up for a night of Ecuadorian partying.
Whilst looking for a decent restaurant I got offered drugs several times (so I said yes each time and now have some great souvenirs for you guys!) and asked to follow certain dodgy people into less well-lit areas (which I would of done but was just so gosh darn hungry).
After eating some chicken/walnut/mint/cream dish I felt so full and tired that I was in bed by 9! Lame. But I did feel safe and didn't get mugged/attacked or such.
I also got addicted to a dish here called 'pane de yuca' which is bread made from a sweet potato plant. Although it was way better in galapagos (as it had cheese in the middle).
Now it's time to go loca in 'Coca'! With my lanky limbs they may well confuse me with a spider monkey or whatnot.
