For our first trip to a national park, we geared up: long pants, long sleeved top, suncream, mosquito repellent, closed shoes...Cahuita National Park is free (donation welcomed) and can be accessed by foot without a guide. The whole trip is about 9km long and the nicest part its along the beach front. At the first river - we had to take our shoes off and wade through the cold brownish water of the river delta, after that, we managed to go about 1km further. We saw the famous yellow snake (juvenile), racoons, sloths, howler monkeys, crabs, spiders, butterflies, termites and many more creatures. On our walk back to our place, we ate some chocolate crepes and then had a homemade pizza from Alex to again - say sorry for the booking mistake he did. I must admit that my family is not as adventurous as I hoped ...but as long as they get out of their comfort zone and embrace new experiences - I am happy. One big learning for me is to stop trying to make it right for every one of us all the time on the trip. I wont be wasting my energy on that - as long as we are healthy and our stomachs are filled every few hours I am good. I drink a local Imperial beer as often as I feel like and try to enjoy every minute - pura vida!
