TUSCANY - woo hoo..... I had the drive from Venezia to Certaldo (Western Tuscany), it was a magnificent drive through valleys that were covered with vines partnered with rolling hills. It was exactly how i had pictured it if not better!
Chris got a little worried about our accomodation as we were getting nearby as there didn't seem to be a lot around - we turned into our street and there happened to be a run down factory. As we drove on (about 3km's up the road) we came to the guest house - absolutely goregous! We were greeted by a young man named - Chris... His Mum and Nona seem to run the joint whilst he is front of house (only one who speaks English). We went for a wander throughout the property - there is a great Vegie garden, fruit trees, BBQ, Pizza oven that we can help ourselves to.
We had a relaxing afternoon and settled ourselves in for the evening!
The following day Mr D and I ventured into Pisa - we caught the train (about an hour away), it was beautiful - you're simply walking along and then out of nowhere pops the tower and churches. We walked around the grounds for a little bit then made our way outside the old city walls and headed back to the train station.
We had a rather eccentric lady sit next to us on the train (she spoke English was so happy to meet a couple of others who did also). The ticket inspector came around and as you can guess she didn't have a ticket so her ID was presented and she was advised that a ticket would be sent to her home. As the inspector walked away she turned to Chris and I and said " even if the ticket shows up it won't get paid as I no longer live there" she then laughed - bit of a free spirit!
As we walked home we saw our first Tuscan sunset - it was beautiful.....
Got home, Chris cooked dinner (nice to have a home cooked meal) had a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio and finished the evening playing Uno!
