After having breakfast and getting the car packed for our journey we decided to spend the day and night in Galway. We left Limerick and not that far out of the city it started to rain - surprise oh surprise but unlike Glasgow where you just felt depressed the rain only added to the atmosphere. We passed ruin after ruin marveling at the stone fences realizing that most of the fences would be older than Australia - our country is only a baby after all!! Finally we reached Galway, just a short 90 min drive from Limerick and I must say out of all the places I have been I think Galway is now my favorite place!! A seaside town with a population of around 100,000 roughly toowoomba's size it is clean and it looks happy - if there is such a way!! With a university of approximately 18,000 students it is a town where it looks like its residents take pride in where they live!!
Our choice of accomodation for the night is a b&b and I think we are going to have the best night's sleep we have had in a couple of weeks!!!
We have booked dinner and a show of traditional music down in the promenade so definitely looking forward to that. We did an hour long bus tour of galway and saw the residents preparing their town for the finish of the Volvo ocean yacht race that began in Brazil. Buildings are being given a touch of paint and roads are being tidied - the town looks proud!!!
We went home and decided to have a bit of a kip before our big night.
After our well needed rest we got ready and headed to the salthill hotel for dinner and the show. We have discovered that the Irish can not make vodka, lime and soda - so after having per dinner drink we headed into the restaurant - food was good but service wasn't that flash and we had a family next to us who had a little girl who decided she didn't want to behave while mum and dad had their dinner!!
It was then time to go and see the show - off course it clearly stated what time you had to be there but without fail there were people leisurely strolling in not really caring that they were disrupting the show which had already begun and surprise surprise it was a big group of Americans!!
The show was incredible, world champion Irish dancers, performers from river dance and other amazingly talented musicians and singers and the show was reasonably priced and went for around 2 hrs. After the show had finished it was late and time to head home to rest our weary heads!!!
