Decided to try something different for breakfast. Went to the famous Ellen's Stardust Diner where aspiring Aspiring actors and singers wait tables while singing Broadway tunes! I would put this on the recommended list for anyone planning to go to NYC - it was very cool!
Now, it's time for some serious shopping at Macy's - our first stop of the day. We spent a few hours navigating this mammoth of a store, which is an entire city block! Many of the escalators are the original wooden ones that clack along on the ride. Of course we all managed to make a "few" purchases ;)
Headed back to the hotel to drop off our shopping bags, and back to being tourists. Headed to Central Park and decided to do the most touristy NYC thing - horse buggy ride through the park. It was amazing - hard to believe how big this park is in the middle of chaos! Our tour guide was good, but his explanations all included a list of movies that were filmed in each location. Would have appreciated more historical info instead of the Hollywood version.
Restaurant recommendation!! Our hotel a block away from Hell's Kitchen - handy!. The hotel concierge recommended Blockheads, a nice Mexican restaurant in an open courtyard. Food was excellent! We shared a few appetizers and had some pretty kick-ass drinks - Margaritas and Dar had some fireball whiskey drink with the little upside down beer!
Back to touring....decided to take the night bus tour to see the big city lights! It was drizzling a bit before we got on, but luckily none of us were wearing white pants - whew! The tour started, and we wondered where the tour guide was. Evidently there is no tour guide on the night bus (another reason NOT to use this bus service). Went through downtown, China Town, Little Italy...then over the Manhattan bridge to Brooklyn. Amazing view of the city at night!
