We are trying hard not to count down to end of our time at the Mathieson school but it is Tuesday and we leave late on Thursday night. There was some slight confusion time about car pick up times, and also Sairul was off at the airport collecting Sam who has come to work with the children in the school for six weeks a part of four months of travelling. He came here with a trip from Sutton Valance school and has come back. We are hoping that some of our students are inspired to do the same.
Sam arrived during sports day, which included rounders, a penalty shoot out and hit the wicket bowling. I managed rounders and quite unbelievably scored a rounder - considering the last time I played rounders none of the rest of my team were born I felt very pleased with myself. Josh kept the score and whilst he did seem to struggle with our felixble attitude to the rules and scoring her managed to keep a very impartially vague score for both teams.
Sam arrived in time to do the penalty shoot out and hit the wicket and fitted right in, as if he had been with us all the time.
After lunch we had another orchestra practise of about 2&1/2hours, conscious that our local concert will be on Thursday evening before we head home. Ange has taken on a book sorting exercise in the school library and when I wandered over to see her at the end of the practise she was being over run with ants about 2cm long. At this point she paused whilst fumigating wa organised.
Some of our students made the puffed rice with cucumber and onion for afternoon snacks which was accompanied by birthday cake with relighting candles, singing of birthday wishes and lots of enthusiastic applause.
Most of the rest of the evening was taken up with playing games with the children but it is getting increasingly hard to persuade the students to go in the first car back to the accommodation.
