The day started with all of us heading over to the school in time for breakfast and then High Mass celebrated by Revd Rachel Hawes. One of the larger classrooms was once again draped with beautiful saris, the floor had been covered with plastic sheeting and rugs, the whole space looked so colourful. Rachel has taught some of the boys to be crucifer, carry thruribles (incense burners) and process. The orchestra played some of the music they had been rehearsing, a mix of students and children read from the bible, Rachel preached and we sang the hymns we had been practising during the week.
After the service the children and Anup gave Rachel a farewell, and she headed off to her five star hotel in the centre of Kolkata.
Lunch was a later and relaxed affair but through a hiccup in communication we missed the opportunity to help with the cooking, however it was a delicious chilli chicken and Anup even pitched in stirring the rice.
The afternoon was really quite relaxed after the full on week we had had, so some of the students took an opportunity to catch up on some studying with Chris conducting at least one maths lesson and the string players practising exam prices. We had a very short walk towards the village but as it was so hot we really didn't get very far. I am sad to see how much building there is going on around the school and relieved that the school have enough land that they can keep some open space around the buildings once the school is finished providing a wonderful educational oasis.
