Today - a break from the road, we get to stay a second night in Rotorua! There is quite a bit to see, and we have this pass that gives access to five different sites - starting at the Agrodome.
Unfortunately the weather is not great - we were initially looking to go hire a couple of bikes as the distances to attractions are not huge, but still quite a bit to walk (factoring in the walk back afterwards...). So in the end we settled for driving - good choice, the rain kept coming on and off.
The Agrodome's key attraction is its different type of sheep, sheep shearing and so on - a few other animals - something different. Interesting to see how different two sheep can be!
Moving on to the next stop, Rainbow Springs Nature Park - where we had our second encounter with genuine kiwis (though these were in an enclosure, previously sighted on one of our driving trips).
Skyline - a scenic cable car ride up Mt Ngongotoa and a bit of a walk giving views over the town and of course of lake taupo.
Polinesian Spa - there are so many references to thermal pools and the likes that a trip to a spa seemed appropriate. For this one we had a set of pools, maybe 6 or so, heated between 38 and 42 deg depending on the pool. They also have a different mineral composition, some are said to be good for the skin whilst others good for arthritis... Well so they say. The pools are quite elevated and mostly outdoors, so you can get good views of the lake and area from the heat of the pools! Thankfully the rain held off whilst we were in there.
After all that - back to camp, and made a quick bbq between showers!
