A trip to Japan will not be complete without a visit to Kyoto - with it's more than 1700 temples and shrines, including 17 world heritage sigths, it's one of the most important places for the cultural history of Japan.
Even though i am not usually the one to get most excited about cultural heritage, Kyoto was breathtaking - I even found myself giving up on trying to catch the beauty of Kyotos temples and zen-gardens on camera - and knowing me, that says alot! Huge temples - incuding one which is said to be the bigges wooden structure in the world, and another completely covered in gold - fitted in between 10 story buildings, and others placed in the midst of huge bamboo forests! And what I found to be the most beautifull of it all, was the zen-gardens. Thoroughly thought-thru gardens, with every pond, rock and plant carefully placed as the designers had intended hundreds of years ago, and perfectly maintained by the temple-monks. Peace and beauty combined, as can not be described by words! Go and tjeck the pictures! (Soon to come!)
