We left Mallacoota and in no time we'd crossed the border into NSW, home sweet home, so to speak! We were a little surprised at how excited we felt.
After travelling down a rather washed out rocky forestry road we came to the campground at Saltwater Creek in the Ben Boyd National Park. A great little campsite hidden in the bush, behind a beach with a tidal creek that winds its way into the scrub. We stayed a few days as campfires were allowed (always an attractive feature of a campsite), and there was a healthy population of bream in the creek, however Lee could only tempt a few of the smaller sized fish on fly. We explored the neighbouring beach and had it all to ourselves for half the day, aside from the huge stingray that cruised through the break.
The second day saw a National Parks crew come in and fence off most of the camping area, even the part we were camped in. Thankfully they left an opening for us to get the car out! Apparently they were closing down the campsite because the trees were too old therefore too high a risk of dropping limbs. Bloody bureaucracy.
Anyway, after an awesome couple of days we headed off, next stop Eden. A couple of chilled out (and chilly!) days plus a little rain, after the fantastic weather at Saltwater, saw us eager to move up to the next planned stop, Merimbula, where we were booked in to some fancy accommodation. Woohoo!
