Hi, We are now home and catching up on much needed sleep. It has been a very busy but fabulous 6 weeks away. But it is nice to get some washing done now and have some fresh clothes from a wardrobe instead of a suitcase.
So these are the last photos from London and this will be my last blog entry.
We had a very full time trying to pack in all those wonderful places in London you always read about - The Tower of London, London Eye, Big Ben, Natural History Museum, Hyde Park, Harrods and lots of pubs. We discovered the English really love their beer - so many different varieties - and Rod and Arvids had fun enjoying a sample or two! We had a great London Walk experience with a very funny guide (I believe he has an acting background) and he told some great yarns about the history of old London while walking us through narrow alleys and old bridges and a few more old pubs! Highly recommend these walks as a great way to see a different side of London. Walked up the many steps to the galleries near the top of St Paul's Cathedral with fabulous views of London city. Took the ferry cruise along the Thames to Greenwich village about an hour out of London where central mean time is calculated. Fascinating Royal Observatory located there where astronomers from many years first plotted the stars and early time measurement was developed. Visited the Royal Mews and said g'day to the Queen's horses and had a close look at the magnificent royal carriages. Went to two West End musicals - there was so much to choose from! But went to Wicked and Oliver which were great. Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean) was playing Fagin in Oliver and was absolutely fantastic - a great stage actor. Managed the Underground despite the numerous line closures for repairs - so often had to walk to the next tube station and find an alternative line(s) to get home. Not always as efficient as expected. However, had a great time nonetheless.
So now home with lots of photos and memories to hold onto. Hope you have all enjoyed the blog. Look forward to seeing you all soon.
Debbie.
