We arrived yesterday in Salzburg after a long train journey from Switzerland. It is spectacular country with immense mountains and narrow valleys with lakes and picturesque villages. Salzburg is a very historic town - the birthplace of the musician Mozart. We had a fascinating morning walking through the Mozart museum with the history of his life and his famiily. Despite his talent and lived as a pauper for much of his life, but was quite a flambouyant character. Of course, the city now cashes in his fame - every building claims some association to Mozart and there many tourist gimmicks for sale, especially mini wind up violins and treble clefs, even umbrellas with mozart music printed on it. I have loved watching the local elderly folk walking the streets in their traditional tyrolean hats and coats! There are also lots of dogs, especially very large dogs (St Bernards, german shepherd, samoyd) everywhere. The swiss and austrians seem to love their dogs and you see them in shops and on trains, everywhere.
Travelling has been very tiring - lots of getting lost and feeling completely disorientated in time and place, not understanding the language and currency and frequently moving about from one country to the next. It is quite challenging but great to see how other parts of the world live. Off to a Mozart concert tonight -what else!
