Hey folks, i am still alive, havnt been abducted by a kiwi or anything, I've had trouble uploading my blogs onto the site, so ive just been writing it all done on my iphone, so bare with me.Auckland is actually an amazing city, there is a lot of culture to it, as the end of the day approached I began wishing that I had maybe stayed an extra couple of nights. Oh well we live and we learn hey?.. At least i got to see quite a bit of the city.Yesterday (Monday) was quite eventful. Went for a 1.5 hour Harbour boat tour which was lovely. Went to one of the 9 volcanoes in the area - the Rangitoto - it's an in active one - otherwise I wouldn't have been anywhere near there. Have a look at some of the pictures, u can actually see sme of the lava. I got to walk round it as well, well just the summit but thats all I needed really, those who know me well know im not the sort to go wondering round hills and mountains.Anyways I also saw the harbour bridge, naval bases, auckland's main shipping port.. Etc... I guess the most fascinating bit was actually seeing the city and the sky line from the water, it was actually quite breath-taking. I only wish I had visited sometime in the summer months when it would have been blazing hot and I would have been able to sit on the top deck of the boat. Though I can't complain too much about the weather it's winter over here and the average temp is about 15 degrees - not far off from the 'summer' temp in the UK.Oh did I forget to mention that as at 5 when I left my hotel room again in the evening to go for the IET event my suitcase hadn't arrived yet?... I wasn't exactly in the best of moods because of this. Anyways the IET event was a success, a turnout of about 30 people - much more than I expected. My presentation was brief as I only had a 10 min time slot.. Thank God! It does help presenting to majority IT and Mechanical Engineers as most of them didn't really have much knowledge on Global warming meaning that any mistakes I might have Made would go un-noticed. It also helped that the min event was on employability, in which the main speaker spoke at length on this topic.I've had a couple of conversations with a number of individuals round here and have noticed how there a loads of people who have ties with the UK. Some have lived there, some have relatives there and some have ancestral roots there. The IET's Young Professionals are quite awesome, it Helsinki that the sense of humour over here is similar to that in England so it didn't take much to get conversation flowing. A couple of us went out for dinner - sponsored by Aucland's IET, which was quite lovely of them. The choice of the night was a beautiful Thai restaurant in the city, their food was simply amazing. They've got the best seafood round here. Tried a new Zealand Sauvignon blanc with a amazing snapper fish. Sach and the guys recommended I go to the sky tower which is the tallest building inthe northern hemisphere, they've also got a revolving restaurant right at the top.. Ok I'm sold.. That's dinner sorted for tomorrow, Sach also mentioned I should go to Devonport, which is one of Auckland's Historic Islands.Well tomorrow seems to be planned already.. I'll sign out now folks.. Till next time..Oh forgot to mention my suitcase finally arrived.. It slept in my bed that night!XoxoDebby
