Final day in London and this was sightseeing day! We needed to checkout by 11 but the hotel kindly offered to take our bags until we were headed to the airport. Jordan conjured up a plan for the day and we wanted to see mainly Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and the houses of Parliament. We also planned to meet Hannah today and have a drink with her!
Tube time again and things went pretty flawless. I also have to add that a lot of the sucess of this trip is due to Jordans skills reading the tube timetables and google maps on our iphones! I don't know where I would be without that app! We got some random tube and ended up in Buckingham Palace. We did not plan this but we ended up in a MASSIVE crowd of people where the changing of the guards was taking place. The commotion was insane, so many tourists, police on horses and general noise. We saw the guards and then moved swiftly on, mostly because Jordan and I still can't see anything due to our shortness! We then walked down the big long street that you always see on TV, and got ice creams. Writing this has just made me realise I owe Jordan 2.90 for that ice cream!! (Sorry Jordan). After hitting up google maps we finally found the houses of parliament and big ben, both equally impressive and looked cool in the photos.
Next we walked around London a bit and the weirdest thing happened. A double decker bus passed us with a man hanging off the side of it with just his arm. We had no clue what was going on until Jords realised that it was the magician Dynamo. I mean what are the chances. A random trip to London and we get to see Dymano preform a trick live. It looked incredible. Obviously it was probably a harness job or something but it did look insane. Definitly one of the highlights of the trip! We then went to see Downing street and were pretty gutted that we weren't actually allowed up to the door. Police men with proper machine guns had it surronded with the added security of a steel fence. I have seen people get pictures with it before so I am still a bit unsure as to why it was all baracaded up, I'm thinking maybe it was something to do with the G8 summit which had just taken place. Who knows!
We then tubed it back to Leicester Square where we found somewhere to eat. To be honest by this point in the trip I wasn't feeling the best due to the amount of burgers and chicken and carbs I had eaten! I opted for a sandwhich but I still felt pretty rough. We scoffed our food and went to meet Hannah. She was standing outside the station and we tired to creep up and suprise her but she spotted us! We went to a fancy little bar/ cockatil place which was very nice. We spent an hour or so chatting and catching up and it was just so chilled out and lovely. We had a couple of beers and even opened a 'tab'. How very fancy! Me and Jords were time concious and after our drinks we collected our suitcases. Hannah sorted us out where to get the tubes to and she dropped of at Victoria station where we had to pay the crippling £20 back to the airport. We said our goodbyes to Hannah which was ok because we knew we would see her next week when she's back in Belfast!
We got on the train and tiredness hit me immediately. I could have happily slept there all night but it's only a short ride away to Gatwick. Our bags were ok size and everything so we were pretty chuffed about that especially as we were panicking our bags would be too heavy and we would have to pay the £50 charge!! No thanks! We then just waited around the airport for an hour or so, had some crisps and reminised on how good our little weekend was. The flight home was ok, I did the usual freak out for the entire flight, but I'm used to it by now! I don't think it is something that will ever go away. Overall I had a fantastic trip to London. Jordan and I both said we would go back, however save more money next time and stay longer!
