Mel and I decided to lie in this morning as we rarely do that! We were woken up by a fellow traveller hoking through some plastic bags but we were glad she did! We had breakfast in the hostel, I had yummy pancakes and Mel had a salad.
Today was terracotta warriors day. We planned out where we needed to go and got to the railway station! After about ten stops we got off and waited for bus 5 (306). After ten minutes we realised we were just standing in a car park. No sign of a bus. We approached the Chinese security guard and pointed to our map. I love how when you tell Chinese people you need help but you only speak English, they have an entire conversation with you in Chinese ha ha. We soon realised we had come to the wrong station! We were supposed to go to xian railway station and instead we went to xian north railway. What a let down! To be fair we were both exhausted so decided to chill out.
We got the tube back and I was really craving western food. I ordered some chips with cheese and bacon. I justify it but the amount we walk around everyday :) we then surfed the net trying to look for our hostel for shanghai, which we realised was a day after we thought it was! I just wanted to book something as there was very limited places left so we settled on 'mingtown etour youth hostel'. 'Ming' also reminded me of jay and monicas old cat so i had a good feeling about it. It Looks pretty nice and most importantly it has a laundry service. I've worn and re worn all my clothes at this point! I am definitely looking forward to shanghai.
We then chilled in our rooms and just text and whatsapped friends and family. We also found out that the royal baby had been born as people seem
To be going crazy worldwide for him! The one thing in xian I really wanted to do was see the light show. It was the only thing and tonight was the night! 6.30 came and we headed down to get the bus after the staff told us where to get it. Oh my god. It was the most insane 20 minute journey of my life! It was something like die hard! The driver clearly did not care for other road users and was ramming people's cars, cutting people off and nearly knocked over about ten cyclists! It was incredible no one died . A cool part of the journey was the fact that we got to see a snippet of the old Great Wall. There was also a building that had been decorated with cement in traditional Chinese patterns. It looked pretty ace!
We arrived at the light show at around 7.40 after being told it started at 8. The grounds that surround the light show are incredible! I loved them; proper nature. There was a massive group of people in the park dancing. It's a pretty common thing over here to gather in large groups and relax. Plus it's free! Not like paying for a bloody Zumba class. I jumped in for half a song and I think the locals got a kick out of that. I got a lot of smiles. After dancing nonsense we walked to the show and got a spot. It was perfect and we were right at the edge with no one in front. Mel and I got so many looks. People were taking photographs of us, wanting to talk to us and shoving there mates to stare at us! I honestly don't get it. It's so hard to understand the reaction we get. I'm just going to put It down to the fact I'm bloody gorgeous! Ha ha just kidding. But not really.
8.45 came and Mel was getting impatient! I kind of like waiting, I am in no rush. I don't see any problem with waiting an extra hour in a garden filled with beautiful lights trees, and people taking my photo! Haha. The light show finally started and it was ace! I loved the effects and the music and how it wasn't like anything I had ever seen. Mel suggested leaving our spot and heading down to the bottom but I was a bit unsure. We weren't anywhere near the front down there so my proper photos were ruined by people's heads but that was inevitable! I managed to sneak in and get a couple and then get out. Hopefully I'n shanghai I will be able to find somewhere to upload my photos. I really should have bought an iPad before I left! You can get your photos uploaded no problem! (Would have been a totally indulgent purchase!) ha
After the show we got the tube back to our hostel. We were very aware we hadn't eaten dinner so we picked up some street food. To be honest I hate street food. And food In china generally. It is tasty don't get me wrong, and its not the actual food i hate, but I can tell the food standards are just s***. Even if you are in a restaurant the places are dirty as sin. If you buy street food it is equally as tasty, but how do these people wash their hands? What lands on the food? It makes my stomach churn thinking about it. I am trying new and delicious food but part of me wants to eat omelettes every day! Ha ha. We ended up grabbing fried rolls filled with chicken and chilli from a street vendor . I could almost taste the cholesterol.
We headed back to hantang inn and were pretty tired. We turned the lights out and headed for some sleep. About an hour later Mel asked me if I was still awake and she sounded pretty upset. She told me she just found out her doggy back home had died so I climbed down from my bunk and we sat in the hall. I gave her a hug and told her I was sorry and that losing animals is really hard; i remember how sad we all were when Bruce died! After a wee cry from Mel we headed back to sleep. Snooze.
