I can honestly say that this was one of the worst days of my life, never mind travelling! At around 5am our train stopped moving and we had no idea why. Melissa and I were the only westerners on the train! It was insanity! After sitting for four hours stationary I decided enough was enough and wandered down the train to see if anyone could shed some light on the situation. I met a Chinese guy called P who explained that there had been an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the scale in the Chendu region (where we were headed). He said the earthquake had created landslides which ripped up the tracks. My heart literally sank. The thought of being on the train anymore than the 15 hours we had to endure was just too much to handle! We ended up sitting in the same hard seat for 11 hours in total. I read an entire book in that time and ate nothing but instant noodles. Our necks were sore and we were seriously losing our minds, I started to wonder what would happen if I escaped off the train and find a taxi haha!
After many painful hours later there was movement on the train, and everybody cheered! It was quite a nice moment. Another announcement came on the speaker which Mel and I couldn't understand so I Went over to talk to P again. He said the train would start going but it would be travelling at 30 miles and hour and it could take us another 10 hours. I think he saw the look on my face because he said it would be ok and we would get there eventually. I hope so!
