After a long long drive from Cooper Pedy we arrived in Yulara the headquaters for Uluru and Kata Tjuta national park. We were able to see Uluru as we were getting closer to the park. Before we chad Uluru in our view there was another rock called Mt Conner ofter dubbed Fooluru as look exactly like Uluru just not as high. Our guide/driver went to collect our national park tickets we breifly went around the cultural centre as we didnt want to miss the sunset. There is a seperate sunset viewing area for bus tours from cars and as we drove up you could see why, There were loads of coaches, mini buses like ours and 4 wheel drive tours. The posh tours had tables with champagne and nibble on. We had to buy our own alcohol from a roadhouse on the way but the driver did have some dips and crisps for us! the sun doesnt set behind the rock as i thought. we stand in front of the rock and the sunsets behind us so the reflction of the sun and the colours in the sky reflect the colours on Uluru and the surrounding sky. It was actually really good to see Uluru for myself and not just on pictures. Uluru went several shades of red before the sun finally set. We then headed to our camp for the night. This is a permenent campsite for Adveture Tours and which other tour companies use. We could sleep in 'tents' or sleep in swags under the stars. After a bbq and a camp fire i decided to sleep in a swag. You put ur sleeping bag inside the swag and the swag keep the warmth in. It was nice to sleep under the stars (and there were so many).
