First day of work wasnt too bad. packing mangoes is harder than i imagined especially in the heat and humidity. There are lots of different sizes and havr to make sure they are all the same size mangoes in the box but not small enough that they rattle around and move in transport. we finshed early so we went to the springs for a swim. the mangoes are either first class or second class. The first class ones were often split in to export and domestic. We had a few warnings about our packing as some were getting a bit lose. After the first few days everyone was fed up as we were still learning but we were expected to be packing perfectly. Never knew so much effort went into packing mangoes. Keep an eye out in the supermarket for Northern Territory mangoes especially with Tous Garden stickers on.
Had to do a few hours picking Nam Doc mangoes which are luckily the non sap burning/rash variety so was happy to pick them. Its a very messy and sticky job as a lot of sap comes out of the mangoes and goes all over you!!! Thought i had managed to avoid mango rash, except the first morning i got back in Darwin a rash has appeared on arm and chest and is very itichy!!!
THe next two weeks carried on on a similar theme with one day off and days varyinf grom 5hours to 10hours long. If we finished early we would go for a swim. After just over two weeks there i had to leave as it aggrevated my back injuries from my camel ride.. Am staying in Darwin for a few days to rest my back before heading to Cairns. Am looking forward to relaxing on a beach to fully rest my back but will avoid the jellyfish in the sea!!!
