Sunday afternoon we jumped back on Seaborne and made the 35 minute flight from St Croix back to San Juan. We are staying at the Intercontinental on Carolina beach in Isla Verde. Keith and Kevin arrived there on Saturday so with Lesley and Ray it will be the six of us for a few more days.
We arrived at our beachfront resort at 4:30 and the lobby was packed with people checking in. We stuck Ray with all our luggage in front of a lobby bar television. He was so incredibly happy because they were airing a Dodgers game. For some reason Ray is a Dodgers fan so he was content to watch the game and almost keep an eye on our luggage as well. While we were waiting the staff approached us and showed us menus of the restaurants on property and the manager came by with cold waters for all of us. We were immediately impressed with the service here.
We were offered upgrades to Intercontinental Ambassadors which Eric and I jumped on. This gives us a free intercontinental night at a later date. More importantly free happy hour and free breakfast for Lesley, Ray, Eric and I for the next four days. That was worth the $200 right there. I am sure we will take advantage of these perks over the next year. We also received room upgrades to a special newly renovated wing. We are so happy and Ray cannot stop smiling.
We enjoyed wine and snacks at our free happy hour and then joined up with Keith and Kevin at 7:30. We walked a mile down the road to a ceviche restaurant. It was a bit of a local hangout and we enjoyed ourselves. After dinner it was pouring down rain. Really the first good rain we had seen on our trip. Keith called an Uber for us to get back to the Hotel. Eric and I were exhausted from all the activity over the last month and were ready for bed.
Monday morning arrived very late for me. I slept until 7:45. I have not slept past 5:30am in a very long time. After doing my "I slept in happy dance", we headed back to the lounge for breakfast. Monday was set aside to be a lazy beach day and lazy we were. We rented a canapy on the beach. Lesley and Ray decided to spend the day in Old San Juan. Keith and Kevin joined us at the beach. The four of us went to a fun rooftop bar for lunch, but other than that we layed on our beach chairs in the shade.
Lesley, Ray, Keith and Kevin went out for dinner. Eric and I begged off. We were really not that hungry. We had a little snack in the happy hour lounge. We were so tired that we took a glass of wine each back to the room and turned on a Red Sox game. We are so far behind on our games that we watched a game from June 12th. We will eventually get caught up. It took us almost 3 hours to finish our one glass of wine and we fell asleep with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th in a tied game. (Good guys won.)
Today Keith and Kevin are heading back to Denver. We are so honored that they traveled with us to the Caribbean and spent two weeks celebrating and galavanting with us. Thank you Keith for being our best man again. We love you.
Lesley, Ray, Eric and I are renting a car for the day and heading to El Yunque rainforest.
