Hey everyone, its been another few weeks since my last blog post. The last few weeks have seen me work to earn some more money to travel with.
I have been working as a door to door salesman for an electrical retailer company called Integral Energy. Door to door sales has to be the most toughest job ever. Basically we just give electricity to customers 7% cheaper. But most people just arent interested, even though I try and save them money. The first two weeks at the job we were on 'road trip'. Basically there was a huge competition between all the sales regions in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, and my team were sent away to an area about 2 hours away from Brisbane that was deemed 'golden turf', so that we would get enough sales as a team to help our regions total score so that we would win the competition. So we went to a place called Esk. A nice quiet village, where I made about 24 sales in my first 6 days. I was in a pretty cool team, and we would drink and play cards in the evenings after work. That first week was really enjoyable, apart from the long days and hot weather (but I'm not really gonna complain as long as i get paid at the end of the day). I got to meet some real nice friendly people whilst door knocking. My second week was spent in Dayboro. This was a really long week, real long days (10.30am - 7.30pm most days). But i managed to hit my personal best on one of the days with 6 sales. So over the two weeks (12days work) I hitched up a total of 44 sales, pretty good. Our team was the best performing team in our channel and I think the best overall in the competition. We were all rewarded (Brisbane channel) with a $6000 bar tab on the thursday before good friday. So basically free drinks for everyone all night, it was brilliant! i then spent the easter weekend chilling out, I think i must have watched TV pretty much all weekend which was all good, I wanted to relax so I did :)
I've then worked the last two weeks in and around Brisbane, 6 days a week hasn't given me much time to do much in my spare time, but I'm off up to Alice Springs tomorrow. I did have a farm job lined up to start straight away, that had a guaranteed weekly wage, but due to bad weather up there the farm has been flooded and therefore I'm unable to work there until further notice. I am still heading up there but it just means now I have to look for work straight away. While I'm up there I will definitely go to see Ayers Rock as well as Kings Canyon. If I'm unable to find work I will look to travel to Darwin or somewhere and continue my search for work whilst I travel a bit. I'm sure though that there will be plenty of work wherever I go.
The weather has been very hot and humid here in Brisbane, not always sunny but still humid! Working out and about has been real tough with the weather like it is. Its something that I have struggled to get used to, people say its real easy to acclimatise to the heat...I've been here for 8 weeks and I'm still suffering! :) But i managed to get through it so its all good.
I have been stayin mostly in a hostel round the corner from work called Bunk, its got everythign i need...a bed, shower, kitchen and Tv room, and more. With local shops not far away. It's cheap enough though.
I have met some awesome people in my time here in Brisbane, working for Integral has given me the best opportunity to make good friends, and I hope that even though I'm now moving on, we can always stay in touch.
I'm missing everyone back home, but I know that if I come home early I will regret not having made the most of the opportunity to stay here longer. Please all keep in contact, email etc. It's always good to hear off you all. I'll try to put up blogs more often from now on, and hopefully going to a new part of OZ I will have to opportunity to travel a bit more and have more things to write on my blog about.
Anyway, I hope that you are all well and that you all enjoyed easter, and I look forward to hearing from everyone soon :)
