I serendipitously caught up with a student at a local cafe for brekky at the local shops (having gone in search for an ATM). I had a 9am class in spiritual formation where the chaplaincy students had a guest speaker. It was a largely experiential class looking at both our spiritual identity and who we saw God to be in our experience of Him.
I then attended another class (in liturgy) with the students led by Fr Pat. The group debriefed on a service that they had designed and led in support of the cancer association 10 days ago. They also discussed briefly a mass that the group was to lead that day. Something that grabbed my attention was a service that had recently done in the Pro-Cathedral in remembrance of babies lost during or soon after birth. There was a very lovely thought on the back of the order of service...
Sometimes love is for a moment,
Sometimes love is for a lifetime,
Sometimes a moment is a lifetime.
Mass at noon prepared by the full-time chaplaincy students was celebrated by another priest on the Mater Dei staff. It was a very moving service which included contemporary and traditional music sung by two students with beautiful voices, and accompanied by others on the piano and mandolin. I was asked to join in with the intercessory prayers and so prayed for a young man Dane back in Australia in an ICU bed after a very serious cranial and spinal injury.
After mass I had lunch and prayed with an Australian friend over Face Book and completed the preparations for my afternoon lecture. My lecture at 4pm was on RE in Australian Schools. My class was made up of a dozen MA (RelEd) students and it seemed to go pretty well. It certainly generated a lot of questions and comments.
