Our Year of Adventure
After some more reading by the pool and getting further tips from Aude over a drink, we have finally got some sort of a rough plan in our heads - at least for the next couple of weeks.
We had played with an idea of renting a car to get around Yucatan in Mexico as it was recommended by quite a few of our friends, but at the end we decided on traveling with bus instead for a couple of reasons. First of all we have no idea how long we will be on the road in Mexico, secondly we would need to return the car to a different town which increments the cost.
Our original plan was to continue south to Belize from Mexico, but instead we decided after hearing so many good things about Chiapas state that we should visit it. From there a logical continuation for the journey is to cross the border to Guatemala. There is still a chance though to head to Belize from Tikal if we so wish.
In Mexico the plan is to head from Tulum to Valladolid visiting Chichen Itza and continuing to Merida, Campeche, Palenque and San Cristobal de las Casas from where we will head to Guatemala. Easter is approaching fast as well and we need to remember to keep it in mind in terms of planning the route as some places get incredibly busy (and more expensive) during the Semana Santa.
Any good tips are of course always welcome!

Essi Greetings from Takapuna! Just a comment to keep in mind during your future travels. Many of the countries south of Mexico require you to have an exit ticket when you cross the border, to demonstrate that you will not be staying indefinitely. My friends who just finished their tour there found this a bit annoying, as you needed to know how long you would be staying in one country ahead of time. Just something to keep in mind... Auckland is still warm and sunny, looks like the summer is neverending this year! Safe travels :-)
